The high mountain peaks of Montana Glacier Country accumulate large amounts of snow each winter, which supply an abundance of water for the three forks of the Flathead River. Every spring folks from around the world begin to arrive around May, to enjoy the mountains, valleys and rivers, eager to test their skill and to challenge the whitewater of the Middle Fork of the Flathead.
During May and June, we have our highest water levels, which are guaranteed to test the most experienced river runner, making for a very exciting ride down the river.
Our spring half-day trips usually last about three hours, from the time we leave our office until we return. During July, August, and September, the river tames down a bit, but it still has lots of whitewater action. It's a great time for all ages, especially senior citizens and families with small kids to experience the thrill of the whitewater. "Best of all," the air and water temperatures are warmer for swimming and water fights. Our late summer trips last around four hours.
These trips travel through the John Stevens Canyon , where the rapids are rated class II and class III. Each of our trips our guided by an experienced guide, there to help you learn the skills of maneuvering your raft down through the rapids.
Great Northern Whitewater runs a fleet of Highside self-bailer rafts ranging from 12' to 16' in length. Most of the trips are paddleboat guided. Oar-guided trips are also available.
I'd like to personally invite you and your family to join us this summer as we celebrate 30 years of whitewater rafting.
I still remember vividly the excitement of my very first ride down the whitewater of the Middle Fork. The power of the river! The happy screams from the preceding boat! The challenge of rowing hard to hit the best line through a drop!
Through the years, over a quarter million guests from around the world have floated with us. Let us help you to select a white water rafting trip that bests suits your needs.
Now it's your turn for the thrill of a lifetime!
These trips happen regularly May Through September, Monday thru Saturday.
